Procrastination Syndrome - Episode 02

It all comes down to the basics.

What is the trigger?
How is it triggered?
When is it least and mostly triggered?

Answering those questions, can lead to the actual reason why procrastination happens.

The journey is quite interesting. And to actually make it successful, that would be the best outcome.

Procrastination Syndrome - Episode 01

Usually I tend to write my thoughts, with minimal reliance to quote or highlighting of other sources, however knowing, and observing how common procrasination has become; I just couldn't resist doing yet, another research about the topic and find out more information about it.

It's actually getting quite boring... procrastination that is, with at least over a decade of experience in the field I can finally say those words...

Perhaps its the dawn of a new era into the industrious era, where things happen there, when and how it's planned to happen.

So far industrious is the only reaonsable word, I have found that could be consider as an antonym to procrastination. Therefore, it's the definition to be instead...

After going through most of the readings below, I will be using this blog as one mean of commitment to keep updated on how closer I am in becoming an industerious person...

I might share my plans, activities and even success or failure stories...

Yet another experiemental post...

Nevertheless, what are your thoughts on the topic? Are you one of us? If yes, what are you doing about it? If no, what are you doing differently?
--------------

Quotes and meanings:

"The procrastinator is...someone who knows what (s)he wants to do, in some sense can do it, is trying to do it-yet doesn't do it."(Alston 1977 as cited by Silver & Sabini 1981)

It means in latin "forward to tomorrow".
---------------

Definitions:
Procrastinate: To put off till another day or time; defer; delay.
Industrious: working energetically and devotedly; hard-working; diligent:an industrious person.

---------------

Interesting readings:
- Procrastination: Habit or Disorder? : A study by a student, quite insightful.

- The Procrastination Syndrome: Signs, Symptoms, and Treatment : An article from a professional prospective, yet again very interesting and insightful.

- Etiology - The causes of procrastination : A theortical article that is worth reading.

- Procrastination can become a harmful disorder : An article by a pediatrician, which highlights how it can be a learnt habit from childhood.

- A formula for procrastination : (Utility = E x V / (Gamma) x D), now this was an interesting finding, a mathimatical forumla about procrastination! Another interesting read.

- Procrastination : A handout targetting students, which outlines, describes and suggests. Nevertheless, anyone can relate to it.

- The Tomorrow Trap: Unlocking the Secrets of the Procrastination-Protection Syndrome : A book that speaks to you practically and can easily be related to. I yet plan to read it, once I can get a hold of it.

Do You Feel Alive?

Would the feeling of being alive be associated by the accomplishments we make, the social circles we surround ourseleves with, the amount of work we have to perform everday either work, study or personal.

I wonder...

I would go with both the sense of accomplishment and the social circle based on how often we mingle with people socially.

On the other hand, there is a whole aspect that can be used for this discussion; the spirituality aspect. This would include the religious affect we might get by performing any religious oriented action (Example; prayer).

However, back to spirituality; is having the feeling of being alive enough to know we are alive? how do you measure your status of being alive...

personally, I sense I am more of a full-time zombie / part-time alive.

It's quite relaxing at the time being...

Indefinite Change

Life changing experience, Life trial, shocking event all these can be life experiences that can change your prospective, vision or style in which you live your life. They can make you become better or worse in a personal term.

The above usually comes unexpected or somehow out of your control and what you go through is your reactional change.

An alternative self-change method would be by reading, attending and practising of of these self-improvement or self-development type of training. Many go through it aiming to better themselves, on the other hand many disbelieve or dismiss of it being of any importance to them or that it can be something they want to do to themselves.

Is it a resistance to change? Is it confidence of their capabilities? hmm... I wonder...

It can be anything really, in the end I would link it to the will of wanting to change and a continues search of how to do it... or vice versa.

Being Mindless, is it possible?

A mental difficulty, being mindless that is. At any moment, there is at least a thought lingering on your mind. Concentrate, focus on being mindless; but any effort goes in vain.. in a matter of seconds and they are lost and some thought cracks in again...

Any mindless people out there? I wonder...

Perhaps it takes practice to be mindless... and perhaps it is strongly tied to our ability to focus...

The gift of being mindless makes you feel like you are floating in space, in the void, soundless and with no sense of gravity... it might be how those space travelers feel, most likely it's just a glimpse of how that feels...

Momentum of Action

It's the moment we require before preforming any action. An instant that hundreds of thoughts go through our mind. A glance of time that a wave of emotions travel through our hearts. It takes all that before it even begins.

Then comes a choice, it is when the result of thoughts and emotions appear. The out come of the situation being balanced. Many external effects can change or alter the choice and based on them the action would be made.

The momentum of action... how long does it last? How far can it maintain its energy? Why does it fade faster then it gets to build it up? When can it reflect the true abilities we have?

As usual... many questions... with many answers...but again... the truth is out there ...

To Focus

What does it take to Focus? Is it an attempt to concentrate on a certain thing for a certain amount of time? Or is it an attempt to isolate yourself from everything else around you except that one thing you want to Focus on?

Is it a skill you learn? Or something you either have or don't? If it was a skill do you get taught or you learn on your own? If it's a matter of having it or not, is there some sort of test to verify it?

Focus; a great word I became fond of in the recent years; due to many different aspects that relate to it. I consider it quite intriguing and has a strong sound to it.

... You just have to Focus ...

What is a Dream?

Is it the passionate desire we have towards a goal we want to reach? Or is it an object of desire we run towards even though we know that we are far from touching it, perhaps it could be both.

What makes our choice of dreams though? Is it our childhood? Back in the days, where we were amused by the thoughts towards a great achievement. Or was it in the teenage years, when life starts to shape up and we begin to realize where our head and feet go?

Dream, a powerful word if utilized right. But how to utilize it right? Is it something we learn from a manual? From others? Or just something we grow to learn and there is never an ending to it.

Lots of people give up, forget, drop or dismiss their dreams with time. So what is the real motive behind keeping it going? It's definitely different from one dream to another. But eventually it falls into one reason. Would that reason be hope? Or could it be determination? The latter sounds more logical.

Dreams... a word that I value ... a word that affects me ... does everyone have a word that affects them... I wonder... but that is another question...

Good and Bad

I found this quite interesting, saw it at Tia's Blog and thought of create my own and see how it turns out. It is about the different positive and negative descriptions that can suit me per each indivisual. And as it grows it will show what is commonly known, what I think alone and what other think and I dont know and finally what none knows.

- Negatives: Nohari

- Positives: Johari

How this ends up should be interesting, basically you can choose 6 descriptions max that is all there is.
